Recipe Saving & Copyright
Last updated: March 2026
We understand that copyright is important to recipe creators, and we want to clearly explain how Scran works.
Scran is a personal recipe tool
Scran is designed to help individuals collect, organise, and use recipes for their own personal cooking.
When you save a recipe in Scran, it is similar to:
- Copying a recipe into a notes app
- Saving a bookmark
- Writing it down in a personal cookbook
Scran acts as a private space for your own use.
You control what you save
Recipes are only added to Scran when:
- You choose to import a URL, or
- You upload an image
We do not:
- Automatically collect recipes from the internet
- Scrape websites without user action
- Choose or recommend specific recipes for you to store
Your recipes are private
Recipes saved in Scran are:
- Private by default
- Only visible to you
We do not:
- Publish recipes publicly
- Create a shared recipe database from user content
- Allow other users to access your recipes
Similar to other personal tools
Scran works in a similar way to tools like:
- Notes apps
- Bookmarking tools
- Personal recipe organisers
It is designed for individual use, not content distribution.
Respecting creators
We respect the work that goes into creating recipes.
Scran is designed to support home cooking — helping people actually follow through and cook recipes they discover, in a more accessible and usable format.
In many cases, this means users are more likely to:
- Return to the original recipe
- Revisit the creator's content
- Continue engaging with their work
Our goal is not to replace recipe creators, but to help more people cook, enjoy, and stay connected to the recipes they love.
Your responsibility
When using Scran, you are responsible for the content you save.
This means:
- You should only save content you have the right to use
- You should not use Scran to distribute copyrighted content
